Is It Down? Website Status Checker
Can’t open a website? Find out whether it is down for everyone or only for you. Enter the address and our server tries to reach it and reports what came back.
What the result tells you
Our server connects to the website the way a visitor’s browser would, first over HTTPS and then over plain HTTP if that fails, and reads the response. It follows up to four redirects and reports:
- HTTP status: 200 means the page loaded. 3xx means it redirects. 4xx means the server answered with an error such as page not found or access denied. 5xx means the server itself is failing.
- Response time: how long the first answer took to arrive.
- Redirects: how many hops there were and where the site finally ended up.
Down for everyone, or just you?
If our check shows the site is up but you cannot open it, the problem is probably on your side or between you and the site. Try these in order:
- Reload the page and try another browser or a private window.
- Try another network, such as mobile data, to rule out your Wi-Fi or provider.
- Turn off any VPN, proxy or ad blocker.
- Restart your router and your device.
- Try another DNS resolver. The DNS speed test shows which public ones answer fast for you, and the DNS lookup shows what the domain points to.
If the site shows a server error (5xx) or is not reachable here either, it is down for everyone and the owner needs to fix it. Your own connection can be checked with the speed test and the connection stability test.
About this tool
The check runs from our server, so it shows how the site answers from one place; some sites respond differently by country. To protect the service and others, it only reaches public websites on the standard web ports, never private or internal addresses, does not download the page, and is rate limited. Nothing is stored. For a site’s certificate, use the SSL certificate checker.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check if a website is down?
Enter the address above and press Check website. The tool reports the HTTP status, response time and any redirects, so you can see whether the site answers.
How can I tell if a site is down for everyone or just me?
If this check shows the site is up but it will not open for you, the problem is on your side. Try another network, turn off a VPN or ad blocker, and restart your router.
What does HTTP status 503 or 500 mean?
They are server errors. The server is reachable but failing or overloaded. It is down for everyone until the owner fixes it.
What does HTTP status 403 mean?
The server is running but refused the request. It can mean access is restricted, or that the site blocks automated checks.
Why can the result differ from what I see?
We check from our server, which is in a different place and network from you. Some sites answer differently by country, and a site that blocks automated requests may refuse ours.
